Siding

Siding is one of the most important exterior systems of any home or building. This is because siding serves a two-fold purpose: it is the first thing most people see when they approach your home and it is a critical defense against the elements.

Siding, Trim & Structure Repair

We resided this house with James Hardie fiber cement siding and cedar trim. We also built a portico over the front door and jacked up and fixed his deck which was falling off the house due to improper installation. There was also a substantial amount of structural rot which we fixed.

As the first impression that most people get of your home or building, it is important that your siding looks clean, that lines are straight and that the trim and accents complement the architectural design. Whether your goal is to rehab an exterior that has run its useful life or to give your home’s exterior a complete make-over, we have a siding system that will work for you.

It isn’t enough for your siding just to look beautiful -- it must be designed and installed correctly to withstand the harsh New England weather, year after year. Our siding installation teams are trained to pay attention to every detail and ensure that your job looks good AND keeps the weather out.

Our siding services include:

Wood

Wood siding is the classic New England siding product. It has charm and warmth that complements New England architecture like no other siding. Wood siding is available in clapboards, shingles, and scallop style. Wood trim has by far the most extensive options and is the trim of choice for highly detailed carpentry applications. Once installed, wood siding and trim can be painted or stained in virtually any color and finish. Most of our wood siding work is cedar because it has the superior weather resistance necessary for the New England environment.

Wood siding and trim installations require a high degree of carpentry skills and abilities -- our highly trained and experienced crews couple advanced technology with old world craftsmanship to deliver quality unparalleled in the industry. As a result, your wood siding job will look beautiful and stay beautiful for years to come.

Vinyl

As our lives grow busier and busier, we have increasingly less time to maintain our homes. Vinyl siding provides a virtually maintenance free exterior that doesn’t need to be painted and will not rot, crack or split – a siding well-suited for today’s lifestyle.

Siding, Roofing & Painting

We sided the house with James Hardie fiber cement siding and Azek cellular PVC trim. Then we roofed it with GAF Slateline shingles and installed all copper valleys and flashing. Finally we painted all the siding and trim w/ 2 coats of premium latex paint.

Vinyl siding can look cheap if not installed correctly and can actually decrease the value of your home. Solid State siding installation teams are specially trained to properly install vinyl siding for a care-free, quality look that enhances your home’s value – after all, a low-maintenance vinyl siding job doesn’t have to be a cheap cover job.

Fiber Cement

Fiber Cement or Haride Plank siding is quickly growing in popularity here in the Northeast. Made primarily from Portland cement and cellulose fiber, it is virtually indistinguishable from wood siding once it is installed and finished, yet requires far lower maintenance than wood siding. It’s like getting the best of both worlds.

Fiber cement will not rot, crack or split like wood siding. It also has the ability to hold paint up to 3 times longer than wood, requiring far less maintenance. Yet when it is finished, it is very difficult to distinguish from wood siding.

A great complement to fiber cement siding is cellular PVC trim. Cellular PVC also will not rot, crack or split and if coated correctly will hold paint very well. Both fiber cement and cellular PVC trim present a set of unique installation challenges not present with wood siding. It is very important that these products are installed by a properly qualified crew.

Siding & Painting

For this job we stripped and re-sided the front of the house with James Hardie fiber cement siding and then painted the whole house with 2 coats of latex paint.

Painting

Except for vinyl, virtually every type of siding requires painting or staining to provide proper protection. As with any project, the difference between a so-so job and quality work lies in the attention to detail and proper preparation. Every Solid State painting crew is trained to carefully prep every paint job – scraping, sanding, filling, and caulking before they even pick up a brush or roller.

Quality also requires choosing the right paints and stains – we start with a slow-drying, oil-based primer on bare wood to provide a good surface that will hold the paint well. Taking the time to do the job right with proper materials can make the difference between your average three year paint job and one that can last over twice as long.

Why settle for a mediocre paint job from part-timers and students? Solid State painting crews are full-time employees with the experience to make your home look beautiful now and for years to come.
